Habitat for Humanity of Oregon envisions communities across our state where everyone has a safe, decent place to live and where poverty housing is unacceptable. In order to reach this goal, we develop resources in support of Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Oregon as they work to eradicate poverty housing.
In 1998 Habitat for Humanity of Oregon was created to offer fundraising, public relations, and advocacy support to all 33 Habitat affiliates – the groups of dedicated staff and volunteers building the homes – across our state.
Our houses are designed and built by a community of dedicated volunteers and then sold at cost with zero-interest mortgages to qualifying families. These mortgage payments – often less than the cost to rent – go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more homes for Oregon families.
Habitat for Humanity homeowners are committed and successful. We have experienced less than a 1% default rate on our mortgages, lower than the national average. By providing a hand up, not a hand out, our program maintains the dignity and pride of our homeowner families.
