Most of us don’t realize that homeownership is out of reach for much of Oregon’s working population.

Did you know that full time employment at Oregon’s minimum wage means a weekly paycheck of only $318, before taxes? In Oregon, the fair market rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $682 per month. In order to afford this, a minimum-wage earner would have to work 74 hours a week, 52 weeks a year.

The majority of Oregonians living in poverty do work. At least one parent works full time in almost 70% of poor families with children.

The cost of housing is the most frequently cited reason for families seeking emergency food aid.
