Habitat for Humanity of Oregon offers fundraising, public relations, and
advocacy support to all 34 Habitat affiliates across our state.
Habitat Oregon Fund
This revolving loan fund offers affiliates a way to keep up with the skyrocketing
costs of purchasing land for building simple, decent, affordable homes. The
initial seed money of $500,000 from Oregon's Housing and Community Services
Department is a five-year, 0% interest loan, which we expect to grow with
additional monies from private foundations and individual donors as we demonstrate
the success of the program.
Any Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Oregon can apply for funds to assist in
the process of acquiring land, purchasing permits, paying fees, and other
activities related to homebuilding and renovation. Payments on the loans, made
by the borrowing affiliate, will replenish the fund, allowing for continued
lending to additional Habitat for Humanity projects in Oregon. The fund is
designed to become self-sustaining within five years. As additional monies are
invested in the fund, Habitat for Humanity will increase the number and amounts
of loans to affiliates.
Between 80 and 120 homes for hardworking Oregon families will result from this
program.
1000th Home Campaign
Since 1983 Habitat for Humanity has built 760 homes across our state, changing
the lives of more than 3,500 Oregonians, for a running total of 1000 homes by 2010.
The dedicated and hardworking volunteers that run our affiliate offices and build
Habitat for Humanity homes are poised to construct another 300 homes in Oregon
in the next two years, for a running total of 1000 homes by 2010.
We're encouraging all Oregonians to take the housing crisis in our state
seriously and to get involved in our 1000th Home Campaign by donating time,
money or materials to help us reach our goal.

Affiliate Technical Support and Mentorship
Among the 34 affiliates across Oregon there is a wealth of knowledge: from
nonprofit management to home building skills. In 2009 Habitat for Humanity of
Oregon will become the centralized resource for that knowledge through a
technical support and mentorship program that will include annual affiliate
meetings to promote collaboration, sharing and networking.
Government Relations and Advocacy
Habitat for Humanity of Oregon is the official liaison between the Oregon
affiliates and the state government. In this role, we educate elected officials
about affordable housing and the difficulties many hardworking Oregonians face
in seeking homeownership. We actively pursue increasing government funding for
affordable housing and establish important goals for those government funds each
fiscal year. In addition, we work with affiliates in defining advocacy policies,
agendas, and implementation timelines.
Coordination of Charitable Fund Drives
We coordinate Habitat for Humanity's involvement in various charitable fund
drives across the state, including the Oregon Charitable Check-Off Program.
Through these programs we are able to distribute an additional $100,000 to Oregon
affiliates.

“Being accepted into the Habitat family has been an honor for us. It has changed our lives.”
Rose’s story:
I am a single mother raising my family alone. I am also taking
care of my 47-year-old brother Mike, and my 43-year-old sister,
Karen, who both have mental disabilities and cannot live on their
own.
Being accepted into the Habitat family has been an honor for us.
It has changed our lives.
We are a family of seven and it has been a struggle to find an
affordable place to live with enough room to house all of us.
We could not afford a four-bedroom home, so we had to settle for
a three-bedroom apartment. We have a bed in our living room to
accommodate a sleeping space for everyone. It has been very hard.
I have been praying every night to God that he would open a door
for us so that we may live in our own home and have some stability
in our lives. Then I heard about Mt. Hood Habitat for Humanity
and I thought, “Hey, maybe this is what God wants me to do.” So
I attended the orientation, filled out the application, and endured
the selection process. We were accepted. Praise God!
As I watch the homes being built, I think to myself: these
are the most beautiful homes ever built; and what makes these
homes so special is that they are made with loving hands of
God’s people.
Dreams do come true. Rose moved into her home in September 2006.
